WAR DOG - LIMITED EDITION OF 500
Royal Crown Derby will hand-craft this item especially for you and will endeavour to deliver the fully finished fine bone china piece within 4-6 working weeks from the order placement.
The "War Dog" is the latest addition to Royal Crown Derby's collection of paperweights that commemorate the service of military animals. Production will be limited to only 500 pieces, each with its individual number, 22ct gold backstamp and certificate of authenticity. Designer, Sarah Whitehurst depicts a scene of trench warfare using sketched pencil strokes to create a sense of memory and reflection. The imagery powerfully emphasizes both the physical and psychological impacts of battle, but also the welcomed companionship that war dogs provided. Oversized Flanders field poppies adorn each side of this piece, adding strong scarlet colours whilst symbolizing both healing and remembrance. Inspired by World War II propaganda textiles, Sarah has concealed the words "lest we forget" around the base of the piece, which can be deciphered using a mirrored surface. "Mirror writing" was used on garments during the war allowing citizens to support the troops in another way. This had an immediate effect on the wearer who would be reminded of their patriotic duty, every time they glanced in a mirror.
